It was closed after that but reopened to climbers in 1987, and then seven years later it was closed again when magma reached the volcano's surface in early October. In March of 2005 the mountain spewed out a plume of steam and ash soaring 11,000 meters into the sky, it was so high it could be seen in Seattle. Martin Luther King: On the 4th of April 1968 Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in the throat while on the balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was pronounced dead little more than an hour after. He is one of the most loved and revered figures in recent American history. At age 35 he was the youngest person to ever receive the noble peace prize. Every year on the third Monday of January, close to his birthday on the 15th, America celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. day. | ||
